a visceral exploration of the shifting borders between embodied senses.

For Bespoke I want to extend on a choreographic language that is a part of my choreographic toolset that I have been developing on various projects over a long period of time.

A physical grammar focussed tightly on rhythmic complexity and small details that interweaves musical ideas into choreographic process.

I want to extend this grammar and play with its range and potential, seeking new ways to meld deeper texture and detail into phrase work, duets, trios, quartets, and more.

I also want to play with the intersection of texture, dynamic, set material, and improvisation, to extend the sense of liveness and embodiment in each dancer of the cast for moments in the work that have deep performative authenticity but grounded in choreographic work.

Please see below for a short sample of the choreographic style I am referencing, keeping in mind it was “in development” at the time of filming and had not been cleaned or rehearsed. Frustratingly the performance was not documented, so I no other video documentation of this work.

I created the music for DULL BOY as I was creating the choreography. It was driven by of a sense of frustration with the confines of social interaction becoming a workload on society and the increasing power held by billionaires AI driven social media and consumer services.

The piece traversed soundscape, orchestral music, bagpipe music, tribal drumming, techno, rave, death metal, D’n’b, Lounge, breakbeat and elecronica in an evolving unrelenting pulse that swerved tempo over time, driving the choreographic language and breaking 4/4 convention musically and teh 8 count choreography convention.

To hear an excerpt of the bagpipe-tribal-Rave-break-lounge-D’n’B transition click on the audio play bar above the videos. You can navigate the audio by clicking along the bar.
