A.I.D is an ongoing project focused on the development and presentation of contemporary dance performances that are directed by a spoken choreographic automation system. The system; a computer program that announces and articulates choreographic instruction with computer generated voice, places a machine in the roll of creative director in a performance scenario to pose questions about human computer relationships, and digitised power structures and dynamics.

A.I.D. was first developed in 2019 as part of a residency directorship at Lucy Guerin Inc. Since this time it has been developed and adapted through various creative developments, showings and presentations, including the aforementioned LGI residency in the form of a showing, a choreographic research and development period in collaboration with Martin Hansen and Chris Chua supported by the AusDance Peggy Van Praagh Choreographic fellowship, Harlequin Tarkett and Chunky Move, GENERATION GENERATION a VCA graduation performance, TEST SUBJECT a choreographic residency at DanceNorth supported by the Ian Potter foundation that was later presented, FORGERY a Collaboration with Brisbane Festival and Australasian Dance Collective where we used A.I.D. ONLINE to conduct long distance rehearsals, and A.I.D. @ Red Stair Amphitheatre

As A.I.D. is primarily a system for training and creating the architecture of a new work. The ongoing project has various public outcome potentials and lends its self well to adaptive programming situations where collaboration with presenting partners becomes part of the design of the work. This was true for all above mentioned works where the number of cast members, the design elements, the length of the work, and the setting were created in response to the opportunity.
